Essay question

Explain how the following techniques are used in the sequence to create effects that fit into the film genre.

1) camera techniques:

Are used to show certain different angles of what the producers and directors are making. Theirs many different camera techniques such as;
  • close up
  • different camera editing such as jump cut , fade and many more
  • different camera angles such as low angle, high angle
  • different music form intense to slow and calm music
The camera techniques are used to make the person watching it feel what they feel many different shot are used for example match on action this is a shot to show the continuation of a shot, if someone were to walk down the stairs this would be edited out to be replaced with a scene where you see the person feet going down the stairs and another scene where the person is at the bottom of the stairs stating that the person has walked down the stairs continuing to a different shot.

Another camera technique is fast paced editing this is mostly used for action films to show that a lot is happening signifying that its dangerous with flashing images of rapid gun fire. fast paced editing is when shots are edited together using lots of shots together quickly it has the effect that the action is happening very fast.
the effect that this shot will have on the audience will be thrilling and they will be in the edge of their seats to know what will happen next.

2) sound

Sound is used in many ways when it comes to media such as  using a sound bridge. A sound bridge is when music is linked into another scene to create tension to the next scene. The effects on the audience is to create tension and have the audience being on there seats wanting more.
There are many different types of sounds such as;
  • sound effects
  • music
  • Foley
  • diegetic
  • non-diegetic
  • background sound
And many more.

3) Editing

Editing plays a big part in media without editing films wouldn't be the same. There is many different types of editing and they are often used in most shots used to make films come to life. For example in the film avatar it was shot with a green screen and lots of editing without editing it would be very hard. Foley is one on the editing techniques used in the film making industries. Foley is when sound are replace or changed because they are hard to be heard in the actual filming process to make things easier Foley is used.

Examples of editing;
  • Foley
  • synchronous
  • asynchronous
  • green screen
  • CGI
  • wipe
  • fade
  • dissolve
and much more,

  2. Where is the clip you were analysing?
    You are confusing some of the elements with one another. Go over them separately and see which terminology is used within each section.

    WOW: You have an understanding why certain elements are used within film making.

    NOW: The HW asked you to pick a 5 minute sequence from an AA film and analyse the camera, sound and editing techniques.

    HOW: Find a clip and analyse it using one specific example for each technique.

    Anisa, you do well during feedback in class and explain your points clearly, but I need to see this in your writing.
